Hi!

I feel as though this community should be more active, even though I understand that as graduate students, we seem to have less and less time. I wanted to throw something out to the community- is anybody here an "older" student? I'm one of the oldest students in my cohort, so being in a group of 23yo is somewhat jarring. I've found the adjustment to finally balance out, but with wanting to have babies and progress along the family path, I often have difficulty honestly answering the question, "Where do you want to be in five years?"

Truth be told, I see myself with babies. I'll be practicing, but there's no way I'm pursuing a doctorate in five years or aggressively pursuing my career.

Can anybody else relate to this?

Hi there. I was average age for grad school but I went ahead and started a family anyway. I can totally relate to valuing family stuff even if it means you might have to sacrifice on career. I was lucky enough to find an R1 TT opportunity anyway, but if I hadn't, I don't think I would have regretted the choices that I've made re: family -- I can't imagine ever regretting what is such an important part of my life. You are not alone!
